An important role has emerged for chemokines in regulating the distribution of progenitor
cells during hematopoietic cell development. As well as recruiting cells, chemokines
promote cell retention and cytokine expression. Furthermore, chemokines have been found
to have an inductive function in secondary lymphoid organ development.
