In vivo localization and pathological effects of passively transferred antibodies to type IV collagen and laminin in mice

Injection of rabbit antisera or purified antibodies against the basement membrane proteins
type IV collagen and laminin into inbred mice caused sudden respiratory distress. Tissues
removed 5 and 24 hr later showed hemorrhagic edema and cellular infiltrations particularly
in lung and kidney. Transferred antibodies could be localized by direct immunofluorescence
as smooth, linear staining of a variety of basement membranes including those of glomeruli,
