A ribozyme is an RNA molecule that catalyzes a reaction, most commonly the cleavage of an
RNA or DNA strand. Ribozymes found in nature have now been engineered to reduce their
size, to alter their target selectivity, to improve kinetic parameters such as turnover number
and specificity, and to increase their nuclease resistance.
